작곡가 정진욱
작곡가 정진욱은 시각예술, 문학 등 비 음악적인 아이디어에 소리적인 생기를 불어넣는 과정에 관심이 많으며, 단순히 다른 분야의 주제를 음악으로 ‘번역’하는것이 아니라 새로운 시각을 제시하고 질문할수 있는 음악을 추구하며 고민하는 작곡가이다. 그는 음악을 통해 현 세대의 문화 연구와 관련된 탈식민지 및 신식민지주의 문제를 주제로 삼으려고 한다. 또한, 현재 진행중인 그의 주요 프로젝트 중 하나는 프랑스 바로크와 현대 한국 케이팝 사이의 다양한 미학과 시대에 대한 사회적 분석을 통해 현재의 성 편견과 소셜 미디어의 경향에 대한 메시지를 환기시키는 것이다.
서울 출신인 정진욱은 어린시절 피아노와 바이올린을 시작할 때부터 즉흥연주를 통해 작곡의 길로 접어들었다. 2007년부터 4년간 한국예술종합학교에서 예술 영재 과정을 수료하였고 이후 2012년에 브레멘 국립 예술 대학교 작곡과에 입학하여 Jörg Birkenkötter를 사사하고, 학사 재학 중 독일 국립 장학 재단, DAAD 재단 그리고 예술 재단 Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation의 최우수 장학생으로 발탁되어 후원을 받았으며 졸업 후 오스트리아 그라츠 국립 음대에서 Beat Furrer를 사사하며 석사 과정을 밟았다. 파리국립고등음악원에서 Gérard Pesson 지도하에 프랑스에서 수학 후, 독일 쾰른 국립 음대에서 Brigitta Muntendorf 와 함께 최고연주자과정을 마쳤으며, 현재는 프랑스 파리와 벨기에 브뤼셀을 중심으로 Cité internationale des arts 와 Ictus 앙상블의 상주작곡가로 활동하고 있다. 2025년에는 한국인 작곡가로서는 최초로 프랑스의 권위 있는 국립 예술재단인 Fondation Nationale Banque Populaire 의 상주작곡가 선정되었으며, ISCM 현대음악제에 그의 오케스트라 작품 초청되어 연주되었다.
그는 라디오 프랑스 필하모닉 오케스트라(Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France), 슈투트가르트 남독일 방송 교향악단(SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart), 리스본 메트로폴리탄 오케스트라(Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa), Ensemble Musikfabrik, Intercontemporain, Recherche, Multilatéral, Klangforum Wien, Stockholm Chamber Brass, Trio Catch, Ensemble Schallfeld, IEMA Ensemble, Asasello Quartet, Quartetto Prometeo, Ensemble airborne extended, Kubus Quartet, Mahan Esfahani, Jaime González, Carin Levine, Matteo Cesari 등 국제적인 앙상블, 솔리스트들과 함께 유럽과 한국을 중심으로 대구국제현대음악제, 통영국제음악제를 비롯해 프랑스 파리 ManiFeste-IRCAM, Festival de Royaumont, 네덜란드 Gaudeamus, Prix Anellie de Man, 벨기에 Bozar, Festival Images Sonores, 핀란드 Time of music 오스트리아 musikprotokoll, impuls Festival, 독일 Festival ZeitGenuss, 11.11. neue musik, ZKM next_generation, Worpsweder musikherbst, Die Zukunft beginnt um 19.15 Uhr, 스위스 제네바 Festival Archipel Genève, 이탈리아 ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week, Chigiana Festival, Martini Elettrico 그리고 스페인의 Mixtur Festival Barcelona, 폴란드 Warsaw Autumn 등 여러 세계적인 음악제와 연주회에서 위촉을 받으며 작품을 발표해 오고 있다. 저명한 21세기 현대음악 작곡가인 Chaya Czernowin과 Simon Steen-Andersen의 주목을 받아 이탈리아 밀라노 Sound of Wander 음악제의 참여, 또한 프랑스를 대표하는 작곡가 Franck Bedrossian과 현대음악의 대가 Salvatore Sciarrino의 국제 아카데미에도 발탁되었고 나아가 독일 칼스루에 국제 작곡 콩쿠르, 이탈리아 피렌체 작곡 콩쿠르 1위, 폴란드 시마노프스키 국제 작곡 콩쿠르 2위 그리고 카를로 제수알도 국제 콩쿠르 2위 등 다수의 국제 콩쿠르에 입상, 더불어 프랑스 국영 라디오 방송 Radio France의 현대음악 프로그램으로부터 위촉을 받아, 초연 작품이 프랑스 전역으로 송출되었다, 이처럼 정진욱의 음악은 다양한 연주와 프로젝트을 통해 유럽 음악계를 넘어서서 세계에서 주목을 받고 있다.
